Paul speaks to those who want to increase their wealth and warns that such a desire has led some to destruction, and can be the basis for all sorts of evil and grief (1Timothy 6:7-10). In today's text he speaks to those who are rich, and warns that those who have riches must be careful not to trust in their resources, but rather in God. (vv. 17-19).
