The text is raw. It is ugly. It shows hatred, human weakness, cruelty, anger, spite, manipulation and suffering. But is also shows love, endurance, obedience under pain, and the willingness of God the Son to accept humiliation, abuse, and the agony of the crucifixion for us. We must rejoice in what Christ made possible by enduring the hostility of sinners so that we might be reconciled to God.
